HERSHEY, Pa. -- Brooke Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) shot a 9-over par 80 to secure a second-place finish as the Kutztown University women's golf team kicked off its spring season with a runner-up finish at the Elizabethtown Spring Invitational Thursday afternoon.
Coming off a strong fall, the Golden Bears earned their fourth runner-up team finish in seven tournaments this season.
Graham birdied the par 4 seventh and collected seven pars in her team-low round. The sophomore from Carlisle, Pa., finished three shots back of Brooke Smith's winning 77 (+6). Graham has played in five events this season, totaling a victory, four top three finishes and five top fives.
Rhi Stutz (Prescott, Wisc./Prescott) and
Brooke Prindiville (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) registered top 15 finishes with rounds of 93 and 94, respectively. Stutz made three pars in taking 13th overall in the 32-player field, while Prindiville sunk four pars on her way to 14th-place.
Kutztown also got a par each from
Gabby Cohen (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West) (103) and
Grace Klements (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Pinelands Regional) (104).
Graham was the only non-Catholic University player in the top five. Behind medalist Smith and Lauren Lombardo, who tied for second, the Cardinals cruised to the team title by 47 shots with a 323 (+39). Kutztown finished with 370 (+86), 54 shots clear of host Elizabethtown (424) for second. The Blue Jays were followed by Lebanon Valley (447) and Juniata (449).
The Golden Bears are scheduled to host the Kutztown Spring Invitational at Moselem Springs Golf Club this coming Sunday, April 6, beginning at 11 a.m.
