COLONIA, N.J. – The East Coast Conference announced their honorees after this past weekend's competition, as graduate student Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) and senior Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) of the Kutztown University bowling team were recognized by the conference as they led the team to the program's first East Coast Conference Championship.
Hanaway was named the Most Outstanding Bowler after compiling a 19.78 frame average with a 21.00 traditional average and a 19.66 baker average. The Forked River, N.J., native topped all competitors with an 88.6 fill percentage and ranked second in first ball percentage (73.7) and makeable spare percentage (86.8). She served as the leadoff bowler for all nine matches over the three-day competition, including the 2-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan in the championship mega match.
Sromovski dominated in the anchor role on the weekend, rolling a 19.73 frame average that was second on the team and fifth among the field. The ECC Bowler of the Year also rolled all nine matches in the fifth position, closing out the best-of-seven baker match with a strike for the team's last ball in a 192-190 victory to give the top-seeded Golden Bears a 4.5-2.5 win over the Redhawks.
Hanaway and Sromovski will look to continue their roll when the Golden Bears (63-43 overall) travel to Pittsburgh to face Fayetteville State in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals on Thursday, April 3, at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes.
