Retter, Kase named to D2Football.com Elite 100 Team

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University had two players selected to the 2024 D2Football.com Elite 100 Team as defensive lineman Freddie Retter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) collected Second Team honors and offensive lineman Adam Kase (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was among players named to the offensive squad.

Retter established new career-highs with 22 solo tackles, 13 tackles for loss (TFL), 7.5 sacks, 2 fumbles forced, 2 fumbles recovered and 3 blocked kicks on his way to PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year and D2CCA All-Super Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Quakertown, Pa., native was also an All-PSAC East and D2CCA All-Super Region 1 First Team pick. Retter led the PSAC in blocked kicks while ranking top five in fumbles recovered and sacks per game (0.68). He also ranked within the top 25 in NCAA Division II in all three categories.

Kase, the Golden Bears' starting right guard, helped KU average 30.0 points per game and better than 163 rushing yards per game. The senior from Wernersville, Pa., is a two-time All-PSAC East First Team and D2CCA All-Super Region 1 selection, and also appeared on D2Football.com's 2024 Elite 100 Watch List. Kase started all 12 games this fall for a Kutztown team that allowed the second-fewest sacks in the PSAC and 15th fewest in DII at 0.92 per game. KU's scoring offense was second-best in the PSAC and its rushing offense was third in the conference.

Kutztown completed the first unbeaten regular season in program history while winning its second straight PSAC championship and fourth PSAC East title in the last five seasons. The Golden Bears were ranked as high as No. 3 in the AFCA Division II Poll, a program record, and made their sixth NCAA Division II playoff appearance before bowing out in the second round to finish 11-1 overall. The Maroon and Gold finished a program record fifth in the final AFCA rankings.
