Women's Soccer Wins Fourth Game in a Row with 3-0 Defeat over Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team won its fourth consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Saturday with a 3-0 triumph over Clarion University at Memorial Stadium.
 
Kutztown (7-3-1, 7-3 PSAC) got off to an early 2-0 lead over Clarion (3-9-1, 3-7-1) on goals from senior Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) and freshman Emily Ross (York, Pa./Dallastown Area).
 
Malanga's goal at the 12:54 mark came off a feed from Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) and gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead. Ross connected on a goal from Curry less than two minutes later (14:30) to widen the lead to 2-0.
 
The goal by Malanga was her third of the season and 19th of her career. It was also her second consecutive game with a goal. Curry's assists were her second and third of the season.
 
Senior Logan Kramer (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor (Arkansas State)) sealed the game for KU at the end of the first half with a goal from 20 yards out in the 45th minute.
 
Both teams were held scoreless in the second half and Kutztown held on for the 3-0 victory.
 
Goalie Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded four saves for Kutztown. It was her second shutout of the season and 10th of her career.
 
KU outshot Clarion 12-11 in the contest and held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Kutztown had five corners in the game, while Clarion had four.
 
The Golden Bears' strong play recently has vaulted them into a tie for third place in the PSAC at 7-3.
 
Kutztown will go for its fifth-consecutive victory on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. against Bloomsburg University at Keystone Field.
