Women’s Volleyball Shutout in Two Friday Crossover Matches

CLARION, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team traveled west to Clarion University Friday for two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover matches from Tippin Gym. KU dropped the first decision to Seton Hill University, 3-0, with a matching score in the nightcap against Clarion.
 
Kutztown falls to 9-10 overall, and 3-8 in the conference after facing the two teams with the best record in the PSAC. Seton Hill (18-2, 9-2 PSAC West) won the first match 25-18, 25-13, 25-17, while Clarion (18-2, 10-1 PSAC West) was triumphant in the second match by scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-12.
 
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) had the hot hand in the first match, leading the team with 12 kills and finishing with 14 on the day. Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) shined in the nightcap, hitting .500 with 10 kills and finished with 16 in both matches.
 
Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) tallied five kills in both matches, while Cara Reilly (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) contributed five total.
 
The Golden Bears struggled on the defensive front line against Seton Hill, recording its lowest output of blocks this year (2). KU rebounded in the nightcap with nine blocks. Stringer recorded three solo blocks and played a part in seven out of KU's 11 total blocks on the day. Van Buren notched four and Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic) picked up two in the nightcap.
 
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) totaled 19 digs on Friday and led the team in digs in both matches. York ranked second with 12 digs, and Carly Shortridge (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) picked up seven digs against SHU. Setter Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) finished with 44 assists and seven digs on the day.
 
The Golden Bears will remain out west for two more crossover matches tomorrow, Oct. 11 starting with California (PA) at 12:30 p.m., followed by Indiana (PA) at 6 p.m.
